among many others.

My name is Kat Banks, former D1 softball player for the Virginia Tech Hokies (2010-2014) and current softball pitching instructor based in Nashville, TN.

I am passionate about developing young pitchers and to teach them the basic fundamentals and philosophy of pitching while advancing these young athletes into the elite pitchers that they strive to be. My simple to understand techniques help accelerate my pitchers to where they want to be.

Another passion of mine is prioritizing the full well-being of my athletes to their entirety: the mind, body, and spirit. With softball being the vehicle to reach these young athletes, I feel very fortunate to be in the position I am to help better influence my girls into the confident, empowered, and loving young women I know they can be.

Background Story: How I Became a Pitching Instructor

This might be my favorite story to tell as to why I am a pitching coach today.

I had elbow surgery my senior year in high school, right before college, that impacted my college pitching career. I was still a starter and played the majority of the games at VT in the outfield, but not in the circle like I had dreamed. Before my elbow surgery, I could locate the ball well, but I really just lived off of my speed. After my surgery, I truly had to relearn how to feel my hand, grip the ball, and pitch again as a 19-year old.

During that season of my life, relearning how to pitch, I grew a much better understanding of the body and how it needs to move properly in order to have a healthy pitching motion. Post-college, I became obsessed with trying to figure out the most effective and healthiest pitching technique as possible. What I thought was a dark season of my life with my elbow surgery, was just preparation for what my future held, and I couldn’t be more grateful for it.
